2004-11-07 Imperial Guard Heavy Sentinel
I have begun to address the legs issue. The one problem I had with the original model was the size of the legs, reminded me of Shrek.
Well I think I worked up a solution. First for the heavy sentinel I wanted the addition of at least one more over the existing two lower shocks. I did this with some 10 or 12 gauge copper wire. I used a trimmed down large sprue piece as the lower half.
To cover up the hole where the wire went in I drilled out a shaved piece of the blue sprue. I replicated this on the top half. I then filed down one of the small tank wheels to about a 1/8 of an inch (3 to 4 mm). I filed the around the detail of the wheel only leaving the wheel hubcap (for lack of a better description). The wheel center fit almost perfectly over the current joint. I did have to cut away some of the detail of the joint from the original leg but it was an aesthetic modification. I left the lower part of the wheel ovule to receive the upper part of the wire shock.
The middle part of the leg was done with filling down another wheel shaving off the entire wheel only leaving the center of the small wheel. Again I made some cosmetic changes around where the wheel fit on the models joint. I cut the side of the sprue frame, a large piece of sprue. After some minor filing and the piece was ready to glue directly to the side of the leg. I have decided I need some better files ironically all I have done is with my large metal file from my tool box.
The upper hinge was done similar to the middle section however I left a small triangle of wheel onto the hub, since the upper joint sits back a little off the leg and not directly above it this kept that appearance. I used a smaller sprue bit and again glued it directly to the leg. Next time I pull out the green stuff I will fill in the gaps. I Will also need to address the feet.
This evening was a very productive evening. I have caught up the #2 heavy sentinel to a point I can use green stuff I will be catching #3 up and have one evening of nothing but green stuff.
I have filed the lips of the back steps off on all three sentinels. I did not like how they where so tall after reflection I do not know if this was such a good idea as that turned out to be a great place for a small bed roll or something.
On the first sentinel I have added the exhaust. I have decided on a modification on the next one.
Progress on Sentinel #2.
I have finished all three with this back steps. I have also added the heavy weapons attachment.
